Apostle Wendell D. Burkett was born October 17, 1957 in Baxley, Georgia, to the union of Jethar Burkett and the late Gussie Mae Alderman Burkett. Grandparents Robert and Vinia Neville-Alderman and Coree and Will Harding, all of whom proceeded him in death. His Christian experience began at Surrency Grove Baptist Church, where he became was an active member and later in 1989 he moved his membership to Tabernacle Deliverance Holy Ghost Temple in Christ Church. He worked faithfully for 17 years as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and later minister. His first assignment as a pastor began in Hazlehurst and he served three years before becoming pastor of Absolute Truth Ministries in Nicholls, Georgia from 1995 until God called him home. He attended elementary school in Surrency. He was a graduate of Appling County Consolidated High School and attended Fort Valley State College. On October 17, 1980 he was united in matrimony Doris Goethie Burkett. To this union was born four children; Candace Burkett, Crystal (Jermaine) Blaine, Sylvia and Isaiah Burkett all of Surrency. Three sisters: Phyllis Cray of Wilmington Delaware, Lawanna Burkett of Baxley, and Reba Cash of Surrency. Two brothers: Milus Burkett and Simeon (Lillie) Burkett of Surrency. Two aunts and one uncle, Vera J. George, Minnie A. Barnes and Charles Alderman. Four grandchildren: Xavier, Brooklyn, Destiny and Jeremiah. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
