Mrs. Minnie Ella Sumner Ogden

"The Lord is my light and my salvation--whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life--of whom shall I be afraid." Psalm 27:1 On the cool morning of October 13, 1924, Emma Lillian and Barney McCoy Sumner gave birth to their first born of 9 children, Minnie Ella Sumner in Waycross, Georgia. Minnie was preceded in death by six of her siblings. She was educated in Ware County Public School System. Her family moved to Baxley, Ga to raise livestock and grow tobacco. Minnie joined First Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher for many years. On May 3, 1941, Sister Ogden was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Moses Lynwood Ogden. Sister Ogden later joined Rachael Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Nurses Guild, Deaconess Board and Youth Director. She organized the Youth on the Move to enhance Christian education and to strengthen leadership skills of young people in the community. She loved reading and discussing the Bible while speaking and in small group discussions. Sister Ogden was a strong support of the local mission in the church community. Sister Ogden was very talented. She enjoyed reading the Bible, poetry, health books, and interior design, and improvements. Her favorite flower was the peony, she taught her children and friends about medicinal effects of herbs and plants. She truly believed in reading for knowledge and self improvement. She taught her grand children to fish, cook, and quilt. She was passionate about mentoring young people and helping those in need. Sister Ogden enjoyed sewing and altering clothes for people in the community and worked as a seamstress at local dress factories. Sister Ogden was preceded in death by the following family members: her husband-- Moses Ogden, granddaughter--Sonya Ogden and son-in-law, Rhoderick Clayton. She leaves to cherish her memories: Her children: Moses Ogden, Jr. (Ida Mae) of Baxley, GA; Shirley Ogden Wright (Walter Robert) of Hazlehurst, GA; Necholus Ogden, Sr. (Dorothy) of Rincon, GA; Foster Ogden, Sr. (Everlyn) of Lizella, GA; Vivian Ogden Lewis (Walter) of Warner Robins, GA and Lanell Ogden Clayton (Rhoderick) of Fort Mitchell, AL Siblings: Warnell Riley (Harry) of Stockbridge, GA and Bobby Dell Sumner (Agnes) of Baxley, GA Sisters-in-law: Nadine Sumner, Betty Sumner and Miriam Sumner Brother-in-law: John Ogden She also leaves to cherish her memories 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends. i
