It is with deepest sympathy that the staff of the C.M. Brown Funeral Home announces the passing of Mr. George Holmes, 87 passed on Monday, June 12, 2017 at the Appling Healthcare Hospital in Baxley, GA.

Funeral Service: Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Rachel Missionary Baptist Church, located at 6407 Highway 144 NE, Baxley,GA. - 11:00 AM
Reverend George "Bubba" Homes, Sr. was born on February 20, 1930 to the parentage of the late Mr. Gibson Holmes, Sr. and Mrs. Beatrice George Walker. He departed this life on June 12, 2017.
He joined Rachel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was a faithful member until his health declined. He was licensed and ordained as a minister at Rachel Missionary Baptist Church by the late Reverend D. E. Kelly. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Mrs. Carolyn Holmes for 35 years.
George was a dedicated truck driver for Hazlehurst Mills for many years. He also worked with the Appling County Sheriff's Department and Road Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Standford Isom and March Jeremiah (Chap) Holmes; and brother, Gibson (T. T.) Holmes, Jr.
Loving memories of George will be shared by his 10 children: Angelo (Mary) Holmes of Jacksonville, FL, Brenda (William) Solomon of Baxley, GA, Emma "Jeanie" Caldwell of Americus, GA, Shirley Holmes of Fayetteville, NC, Sharron (David) Liner of Katy, TX, Russell Williams of Reidsville, GA, George "Chip" (Tabitha) Holmes, Jr. of Baxley, GA, Bryan (Demetria) Holmes of Baxley, GA, Michael Holmes of Raleigh, NC, and Jamie (Lovmetrica) Holmes of Chattanooga, TN; brother: William "Bill" Holmes of Miami, FL. He also leaves to cherish his memory 21 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
